In a bid to broaden its user base in India, Reddit has updated its machine translation feature to support the automatic translation of posts and comments into Hindi.
“With this expansion, authentic, more people-powered content is now accessible in one of India’s most spoken languages,” the company wrote in an update to a blog post. Reddit said it would add support for Bengali soon as well.
Reddit started testing the site-wide machine translation feature last May, beginning with French. In September, the company launched the feature in more than 35 countries and added support for Spanish and Portuguese.
Earlier this month, the company rolled out its AI-powered search feature, Answers, to users in India, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, and the U.K. Previously, the feature was only available to a limited number of English-speaking users in the U.S.
